Signature Programs

2023-2024 Signature Programming

The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri, cultivates leaders who collectively address the needs in our community in three impact areas:

  • Abuse & Neglect
  • Childhood Development
  • Women’s Self-Sustainability

Read more below about these areas, our community partners, and how our volunteers make an impact.

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury in women 15 to 48. One in four girls and one in six boys are victims of childhood sexual abuse. In light of these sobering statistics, JLKC developed the Community Kits program, which provides comfort kits to women and children arriving in domestic abuse shelters.

JLKC volunteers assemble care packages that are distributed to nonprofit agencies who provide services for people in challenging circumstances. Community Kits are assembled based on four standard kits or can be customized to meet a requesting organization’s need. Click here to learn more.

In collaboration with several local community partners, JLKC hosts an annual Community Resource Fair to provide free resources to the Kansas City community at large. Open to the public, resources include health screenings, vaccine clinics, housing and financial resources, legal services, physical and mental health resources along with fun, family-friendly activities.

Our next Community Resource Fair will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Visit our Events page for more information.

HEALTHY U FAMILY MEALS

One in five children in our region is food insecure, and 38% of their households do not qualify for federal nutrition programs and must rely on charitable food assistance. In addition, it is difficult for under-resourced families to receive adequate healthcare, as a family of four can earn no more than $353 per month to qualify for Medicaid. JLKC’s Healthy U Family Meals program works to address these deep needs in our community.

JLKC volunteers participate in multiple roles through Healthy U, from creating healthy menus, filming and distributing fun cooking how-to videos to bring families together in the kitchen, to collecting and packaging grocery boxes to Healthy U participating families. This year’s agencies include Boys & Girls Club of Kansas City, Jewish Family Services, and Operation Breakthrough.
