EMBRACE The CYCLE

Breaking Stigma.Advancing Menstrual Equity.Together.

MISSIONProject Period KC is a JLKC Signature Program that will join forces and collaborate with local organizations to break the stigma surrounding menstrual health and aims to advance menstrual equity—together.

We believe period supplies are essential to employment, education, health and dignity. We work with community partners to distribute free Period Packs to menstruators in need. Each Period Pack contains 10 tampons or 10 pads of the same size, so recipients can choose what they use.

WHY IT MATTERS

1 in 3 low-income people who menstruate have reported missing school or work due to lack of access to period products.

Period products are not covered by Medicaid or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

24% of students have either been unable to purchase period products at all or have struggled to afford them.

62% of teens have indicated that society teaches people to be ashamed of their periods.

Lack of access to period products increases risk of unsafe or unsanitary methods to manage menstruation which can lead to UTIs, yeast infections, and toxic shock syndrome(TSS).
